.Net Messenger problem?

My Laptop's connected to a university LAN, so it's online from the moment I switch it on. Unfortunately, it chooses to sign me into .Net Messenger service too, which I find deeply annoying because population see that I am online and start messaging me. I can't find the program running anywhere on the taskbar, and don't know where it is on the concrete drive so I can't delete it. I just acquire conversation windows popping up. It Doesn't come up on the "Add/Remove Programs" portion of the control panel either, so no luck in attendance. I downloaded MSN messenger just so that by logging onto it, I obtain signed out of .Net Messenger and can appear offline, but it doesn't change the reality that people see that I'm online initially. Anyone know how on Earth I can acquire rid of .Net Messenger Service? Please, this thing is annoying the crap out of me.
