What's the concordat near the number '255' contained by computers and network?

I know what number 8 is. But what is the aim for 255 individual the maximum number surrounded by subnet mask and I guess this number have something to do near CDs also.

Answers: 255 is the largest number possible beside one byte (one byte is 8 bits or Binary digITs).

purely as 99999999 is the largest number surrounded by foot 10 that you can write next to 8 digits, correspondingly 11111111 is the largest number you can write surrounded by binary near 8 digits
entry that the underpinning 10 number is also 10^8 minus 1
equally the substructure 2 number given is 2^8 minus 1

2^8 is 256 (there are 256 possible numbers near 8 bits, namely nought thru 255)
2 to the 8th power

current internet IPs are 4 bytes. they're moving to 6 bytes
The first answer is completely correct.

The 2nd answerer be referring to the difference between IPv4 (what we currently use) and IPv6 the "new" standard for a much larger inventory of IP address. But IPv4 and IPv6 do not use 4 bit and 6 bits respectively. IPv4 uses a 32 bit address space. IPv6 uses a 128 bit address space.
