Speed of download is dictated by lots of factor, some of which already mentioned, and it's importantly unlikely your choice of Client (eg I use Azureus 2.5.x.x because the option available aren't on others I've tried) is anywhere in the neighbourhood anyone a significant factor.
In my experience downloading torrents is scandalously slow requiring mercy, regardless of which Client you use.
One most important factor is your ISP (Internet Service Provider). For example, my ISP is the UK's British Telecom who obviously choke speeds of download and upload at constant times of the year, and contain the total monthly amounts of download and upload.

I would agree near uTorrent, but it wishes setting up right. It is extraordinarily hurricane lantern on system resources and at hand are lots of things that can be changed smoothly to find the best settings for yourself. Others are right give or take a few isp's cap speeds on torrent sites, they do this by throttling popular ports used by these programs. uTorrent allows you to changeover ports amazingly smoothly, so it is worth trying a few different ports. Also use the encryption division of the program which, I believe, stops you isp tracing you.
