i enjoy qwest dsl large speed, i go to hook up another computer near a switch, and everything worked fine till i get to a point when i be setting up qwest dsl on the other computer consequently it said" can not ping the computer" my sound out is, does a switch basically do it ?or do i have need of a router to hook up the second computer?
Answers:
You obligation a router. The modem connects to one computer beside one IP address and if you use a switch, the modem will see two IP address and hold a spaz fit. The router mimicks man simply one computer to the modem, but does the available job of splitting out the internet to respectively computer connected to it.
get a linksys router a switch will not do the chore properly
Yes you have need of a router. On the plus side they're not that expensive.
Your gonna hold to go and get a router, that's going to be the easiest bearing to share your net nouns between the two PCs.
I also enjoy Qwest DSL giant speed.
There might be a restriction because of the service plan you enjoy through Qwest.
Depending on your box, I don't chew over you can run surrounded by a net. I hold Qwest Choice DSL Deluxe.
If your plan single allows a single computer to access the internet, afterwards a router will work.
Here is how I'm setup.
I hold a switch near the uplink plugged into the Actiontec DLS modem. I enjoy several computers plugged into the switch and they are adjectives on the internet working great.
i would ruminate that the problem would be that your internet provider does not assign multiple IPs... using a router would solve that problem as your router would after nick over the responsibility of assigning the individual IPs..
if my suspicion is on the bubble, disconnecting the 1st computer and completely resetting adjectives the make friends connections should presently allow your second computer to work.
