Is it ok to own a long phone cable running to my DSL modem?

My DSL modem bag come beside a 6 foot ethernet cable and a 6 foot phone cable. The documentation say that neither cable should be more than 6 foot long or speed may be effect. Would it really issue for the phone cable since its coming from the wall, wont it be one and the same cable surrounded by the wall?

Would any of this effect ping times?

Answers: Bull puppy. They brand 50 foot cable and that won't affect your speed.
Cat 3 cable (phone cable really) is upright up to 100m within length. Are you 100m from the cell phone switchbox on the side of the house? Not unless you live contained by a drastically voluminous mansion.
