I'm moving house but want to give notice my server at my innovative home, I can any use port forwarding to access the router which will next distribute me to the server (obviously own access control list so merely my connections allowed) and next use correct logins for this, OR create an FTP and do a similar entity, for some defence FTP seem more safe and sound but I hold no opinion why.
Anyone get any thinking? Thanks
P.S server is windowz, client is ubuntu, router is cisco.
Answers:
I would setup a VPN from the unbuntu client to the cisco router.
Then samba for record access (through the VPN)...
and also configure remote desktop on the server.
Just setup a VPN.. from your contemporary home to you ancient and phone up it the daylight..
It sounds similar to a pious setup, but I don't contemplate any Samba or FTP will furnish you a out of harm`s way wallet verbs. In the cygwin suite I believe you can setup an ssh server on your Windoze server that will grant true encrypted report transmissions. From the request for information it sounds similar to you own the knowhow to set that up, and I ruminate it would be worthwhile if you are transmitting sensitive information rear legs and forth between your client, and the Windoze server.
Here are a couple of links:

Good luck.
