I am trying to host an internet spectator sport on the inherited computerand sector of the problem is getting a static IP address. I inevitability a static IP so that I can set up port forwarding. Is it astute to host a team game on my fundamental computer or should I invest in a server for this?

It's okay to host a spectator sport on your computer. Buying/setting up your own server is probably not worth the time/effort.
Don't even bother messing near your IP. Try the following first:
1. Click Start > Run > Type: CMD > Type: ipconfig /all (you will obligation this information for the subsequent steps)
2. Double-click on on the LAN (or WLAN) nouns god contained by your system tray.
3. Click the PROPERTIES button.
4. Double-click on Internet protocol (TCP/IP)

Now your computer have it's own WAN ip and you can host a activity by giving your friends your WAN IP address.
Please facts, you may own to cut the wan ip address from time to time as your ip adress may rework once contained by a while.

You could communicate your DHCP config to save like IP for everymachine for longer period of time such as 4 weeks or so
If you would similar to to use a Static IP , I recomend you to set the config on everysingle laptop on the house so everyone can maintain have service
