But sometimes when I boot up it shows up and works fine till I boot up again? It might be ther or not?

Look for the switch for the wireless adapter and be sure it is turned on. All HP's enjoy an past its sell-by date on switch for the adapter. If it is turned sour.. it wont work. (drove me crazy for weeks onetime so I hold be there) The clue that it may be turned sour is that the "icon" does not show up.
