it wont win any difficult than 11Mbs even beside a high-gain antenna and im just one room over. through one wall!

Re-locate the router, doesn`t matter what you do beside the laptop card, a feebly placed router will snuff out your speed. It wants to be as dignified as possible and clear of obstruction. Also check that you router have G capability, save it can merely support 11M. In any luggage this is far faster than any internet nouns.
There are 2 items to consider.
1. Your WIFI card speed
2. Your Router Speed
It must enjoy same speed.
If WIFI is b/g (11mbps / 54mbps) later the router be at lowest b/g also or superior.
Check your hardware.
