I hold just now bought a Linksys WRT54G wireless router. I hold a desktop, laptop and a pocket PC connected wirelessly to one and the same.
I need I could browse the music files on the desktop while working on my laptop and listen to impossible to tell apart by setting up a Wireless Home Network for report sharing. (Router Manual mentions it can be done). But I am not sufficiently expert to do so.
Have tried to copy settings through WinXP Home Networking Wizard using a USB drive but it doesn't work. The operating system on my Desktop is Windows XP Pro and on my laptop is Win XP Home. Could it be that because the two PCs are not on impossible to tell apart OS, that's why i am not sufficiently expert to do so.
If some one can post a reply sharing step by step what wants to be done (as you will explain it to a layman) and give support to me set up my wireless introduce yourself, that would be great.
Details
Router: WRT54G - Linksys
Desktop: Running on Win XP Pro, (Netgear wireless USB card)
Laptop: Running on Win XP Home (Centrino)
Pocket PC: WLAN enabled
Thanks a lot

Hi,
1 ) Find out the ip address of both the computers.
a ) click on start
b ) click on run
c ) type "cmd" in need the quotes
d ) In the dos prompt type "ipconfig" lacking the quotes, that should confer you the ip address of the computer.
e ) Find out the ip address of both the computers (should be something close to 192.168.x.x)
2 ) Go to one of your computers
a ) click on start
b ) click on run
c ) type \\ followed by the ip of the computer that you want to access e.g \\192.168.1.54
d ) try this on both the computers, if you are competent to see your shared folders, after you are within, otherwise , goto step 3
3 ) Check if nearby is communication between the computers
a ) click on start
b ) click on run
c ) type "cmd" lacking the quotes
d ) In the dos fanlight type ping followed by the ip address of the computer that you are trying to access. e.g ping 192.168.01.52
e ) look for the return message ideally you should be seeing "ping statistic packet sent=4 recieved=4 lost=0"
f ) if you grasp something except the return message mentioned above try disabling any firewalls that you might hold on both the computers. Typically a restart is required to disable the firewall completely.
Hope this help.
Cheers

one-sidedly if music is your big concern i'd simply set up itunes on both computers and turn on music sharing from the preferences of the desktop.
