People surrounded by my familly repeatedly downloading and streaming movie from the Internet. Many of the movie are at smallest 1 hour long, and they're doing it 3 to 5 time a sunshine, everyday. My cross-question is, will abundantly of movie streaming and downloading incapacitate the DSL modem? Will this put stress on the DSL modem?

no, and contrary to the smiling goof ahead of me, you are not going to hurt your modem. the issue is that dsl is slow, and movie downloading is going to guzzle your size to download anything else at like peas in a pod time. so as long as abundantly of downloads are going on, you are going to own slow internet times for other things, I would try to calendar your downloads for the unpaid evenings, and use a product approaching a torrent to get hold of smaller chunks of background from various sites not jsut one.
