We departed Norton (after paying a fortune and have nought but problems on many computers for years) to dance to AVG. The free edition works great and we very soon own the upgraded (pay) altered copy on both of our computers beside no trouble.

Definitely AVG. Permanently free and updates regularly. There is a pay packet journal which give firewall etc., but for in recent times anti-virus the free copy is economically feature and excellent.

I've get two installed because I've have profusely of unwanted sites popping up, The two anti-virus programmes I've get are A.V.G and Ad-Aware 2007, The A.V.G runs automatically but I run the Ad-Aware programme once a week and it other manage to find things the A.V.G overlooks. polite luck.
