you can clear up a command prompt by clicking START, the RUN, next type "COMMAND". once here you can type: tracert www.yahoo.com
or
ping www.yahoo.com
1) initiate a command prompt - Start-->Run-->type "cmd" and press enter
2) within the black command box type "nslookup" and press enter
3) you will see some set book, later type the describe of the site. Example: www.google.com. You will see a bunch of results, these are the IP's of Google.

There are several systems to know. The most glib system is Just walk to command prompt and type: ping www.xxxxx.com, it will show you the ip of the above site.
Click Start->Run->CMD
Now type:
ping www.siteTOping.com
It will vote "pinging www.siteTOping.com [IP ADDRESS] near...
use the ping command...
basically sympathetic a console... type "ping" consequently the website...
e.g
ping www.yahoo.com
you can also budge to a who.is site.
