I suspect my kids are comunicating near others I'd to some extent they not.Checking history doesn't work so I want to know how I can determine which knob strokes are made so I can explain to exactly what's going on.

You have need of to join a keystroke logging program to your system to do this. Read this wiki entry to see which type fits your requests most. I would in truth sit down and chitchat near your kids. Address them as little adults and permit them know your inner health in the order of their computer use. That would resolve your issues minus the expense of software. It may cost you a hug but everyone benefits. Software = you bring angry, they grasp within trouble & the benefit is negated by how defectively everyone surrounded by your home feel. If you don't already own a keylogger installed later here is no means of access to find out what they hold typed contained by.
You could however step into the programs they are using and look at the log files. Most of these programs track history unless it have be disabled.. so you might win lucky.
I am not going to assume that when you utter you checked history you intended the program and not conceivably the pattern browser... so I'll throw that out in that...
Back to keyloggers... near are primarily two kind.. a software one you install... and a hardware one that primarily fits onto the expire of the the ivories cable.
I don't know how older the kids are but you may consider havng a collateral awareness articulate next to them.. AND.. you could also lock down the computer (ie, set up a seperate locked down user depiction for them) and / or insist on approving their friends inventory or discontinuing use entirely.
There's also programs resembling web nany and cybercop but thy can be subverted by a smart kid.
