Microsoft have a port reporter that will convey you for free.
I use a firewall by eeye call blink. http://www.eeye.com. It tell me more than I want to know roughly speaking what sockets are anyone used.
Blink also have an interesting path to detect attacks, at least possible buffer overruns. It does this detection by enforce the rules of the protocols. So if a message that is to say ASN.1 encoded comes within and the message includes a file pasture whose length is supposed to be 10 characters, but the enclosed space is 20 characters long. Blink will discard the message assuming it is a buffer overrun attack. Blink will do this for messages where on earth nearby is no particular susceptibility, so that you aren't as dependent upon updates.
Even next to no average applications running, you will still be using grating bandwidth only just for the operating system to check the make friends nouns, programs probing for updates including Windows updates and so forth. I would not be worried more or less that 1% at adjectives.
