Yeah, I've get some files that I want to preserve locked away even when I am logged on. Anyone know a way to do that- for free? I'd fairly avoid 3rd get-together programs. I know how to lock individual files- can I utilize that to lock up a folder?

If you truly want to encrypt, you are going to call for a third-party program. I suggest "TrueCrypt", it's free, and it'll capture the opportunity done.
why don't you try Winrar. It's unadulterated cool as it will put your folder into a closure report and you can put a password to protect the together folder. it's pretty effortless to do so.
not near MICROSOFT, and you don't enjoy the folder substitute next to folders
You could use EFS which is Encrypting File System for window (you download it from Microsoft).
Warning... if you use EFS.. backup your tag or you will never know how to recuperate your information if your system crashes.
You should also assign a DRA (data reclamation agent).

You could also go and get PGP (pretty flawless privacy) - this is a 3rd f¨ēte but in attendance are still elder free version availale although for measurable reason I recommend the newer ones..
Also, copious programs are set or suspected to own backdoors and/or provide backdoors to tenet enforcement. I am 99.9% positive PGP does not allow this and PGP used properly could cart frequent years to forever to be cracked as it uses different and enormously immobilize encryption methods (and do you really trust EFS a microsoft tool to vote impossible to tell apart?)
If you be in motion next to option as some other hold suggested close to password protecting near winrar or winzip.. you hold nil encryption and it is consequently extremely flowing to crack and at hand are plenty of programs available for cracking those specific programs. So I would not recommend this if you are looking for a "indisputable secure" solution.
