There are miscellaneous reason, both appropriate and bleak, why someone would want your IP address. Your IP address label who you are online, it can be tracked to see what your up to. It is the backbone of the internet really. I wouldnt recommend hand it out to strangers though. Knowing someones IP address give you more of an upperhand if they required to access your computer, hack it it.

There are indeed several reason for wanting to find out your IP Address. One of them is that spammers use IP Address ranges for their mass spamming of the net. A stalker might want to find your IP Address to try to locate you, but it's importantly unlikely, since the IP Address of your computer is most likely going through a server of some open-handed, close to Yahoo for instance. I can look up an IP Address from any Yahoo email address for instance and it will supply the location as Seattle, regardless of the physical location of the computer that sent the email.
