I necessitate to carry topical anti-virus software for my laptop. I'm running XP Home next to a 20G knotty drive. I also own an external strong drive so I don't preserve excess pictures and files on the laptop. I be recommended AVG by a friend of a friend, but some of the reviews I've read hold said it's not immensely user friendly. I've other used Norton but enjoy read that it really slows the computer down. I also saw that Bit Defender have obedient reviews, but I'm newly not sure if it offer as much protection as Norton Internet Security. If I walk beside Norton, which I might because that's what I'm decipherable near, next it would be Internet Security, not only just the Anti-Virus program. Another point I'm trying to save surrounded by mind is price, obviously. Norton simply offer one year whereas some of the others come beside 2 year subscriptions. Thanks!

The most popular free anti-virus programs (AVG and Avast) enjoy poor detection rates (82.82%, 87.46% respectively). Norton is scandalously bloated and take forever to achieve full systems scan.

AVG Anti-Virus is crap!
Mostly noobs, the unrealistic, the computer illiterate, and children use AVG Free. People of their ilk love AVG because they say aloud it is comfortable to use and almost never bothers them near any pop-ups or warning. Of course AVG Free never bothers them, it only just ever finds any virus to tip off them more or less!

AVG have proven itself to be a miserable instrumentalist at best. Missing almost 20%, while trying to detect specified malware, within some test. Not to mention almost non-existent heuristic detection and infrequent "once-a day" updates.

I would suggest Avira AntiVir(R) PersonalEdition Classic. It have excellent heuristics, a virus detection rate specifically better than copious of "paid-for" anti-virus programs and is frothy on using your computer's resources. And did I mention that it's free!

It is not resource hungry, resembling Norton. It does not allow virus' onto your computer earlier detection, unlike Norton and it doesn't cost an arm and a leg to buy it. I be also a inclination of Norton, ten years ago but since Symantec get their grubby profiteering hand on it, Norton have gone downhill hasty. Norton once have a detection rate of 98%, today it's smaller number than 90% and McAffee is no better. Norton also cause several conflicts and is extremely difficult to remove. AVG (free version) is fine as an emergency AV application but is better if the full versio9n is salaried for. However, for the best detection rates, next to on a daily basis updates, not weekly / monthly close to others, the best risk is F-Secure.
