Why is my computer moving at a snails tread?

beginning of month i have computer cleaned , memory added and go from me to xp. computer be great, next started slowing. i did a system restore and added mcafee protection. my computer today is rediculously slow, arrow freezes sometimes,and everything else is at a snails gait. any positive suggestions?

If you upgraded from ME, your contraption is probably only just too matured.
Did u delete the cookies? Do that occasionally, and try removing some potentially precarious virus software.

Open Task Manager and see whats up.

Press Ctrl + Alt + Delete, select Processes tab and see what is taking up so much enthusiasm. Either CPU or Memory
not ample info. how big is your HD? what is your run into? what is your processor speed? what motherboard are u using?
if i have to guess, i would influence its because you enjoy too much memory. try using firewall on your router instead of on your laptop - if you enjoy too small memory. i would suggest that you attain a unknown notebook. its cheaper in a minute.

if you go from ME to XP, it method your computer is pretty outdated. XP by outlook requires more resources than ME; I'd consider a short time ago getting a topical computer.

Otherwise, create sure you own 1-2GB of RAM; thats the amount that XP works best next to.

Run spyware checks commonly, (Adaware is great for this). Defrag once a month...

2. How Much RAM do you own? And Since you added more RAM are they like peas in a pod type?

I would recommend that you disable programs from running at startup.
Type msconfig in the run command and click startup tab consequently uncheck some boxes
