Basically through a series of "plug-ins" and attack script, you attempt to compromise computers surrounded by YOUR web as a proactive financial guarantee method. These interview will show you what exploits your grating is adjectives to, so that you may (hopefully) patch the problem services / machines in the past someone else discovers the vulnerability.

Nessus also give you the choice between performing a regular non-destructive protection audit on a routinely foundation, or to throw everything you can at a remote host to see how will it withstands attacks from intruders. Its other a pious theory to enjoy a written statement authorizing your goings-on until that time foundation, so when you inadvertantly crash the server during apex hours you are covered.

Depending how much time you hold to revise the tools / how mission critical the server is, you may want to enjoy a look at BackTrack2.
