How do elderly virus slip chronological Norton antivirus, autoprotect enabled?

My friend's computer--clean (Norton, Spybot and Ad Aware scans) 10 days ago. Norton is autoprotect enabled. Spybot and Ad Aware are the free version; no real-time protection, but both be updated and Spybot immunize.

Friday, six days latter, when computer booted, they notice strange things...truly, Smitfraud (and other, similar) spyware. When I checked logs and quarantines, I found that my friend have run Ad Aware on Friday, fixing 130+ problems (not adjectives tracking cookies). Yesterday--yes, they wait five days, hoping it would fix itself--they call me within.

I've cleaned it up (what a chore), but when I run a full system anti-virus scan, Norton found and quarantined a handful of nasties. When I looked them up, it seem that none is a lately discovered problem--WinFixer, ISearch and Trojan.Anser anyone the worst of the bunch. And Norton's definition updates from copious months ago should enjoy prevented them. So how do they slip ancient Norton?

Answers: New variant of ancient malware are constantly person developed by the 'black-hats' to avoid detection by signature-based anti-malware products. For example the Zlob trojan, the culprit down Smitfraud, have almost 2000 different variant and the number grows day after day.

This is why anti-virus apps such as Kaspersky are immediately issuing strange virus defination updates on an hourly proof very soon. Weekly (Norton) or even day by day updates only don't cut it any more!

Many months ago. Its no wonder. And erm, if you expected the malwares be created masses months ago, afterwards please gross it clearer.

So let see. Usually real-time protection ( auto-protect ) hold poorer detection rates than a on-demand scan ( booklet scan ). Thats probably why Norton did little surrounded by real-time protecting. But Norton instead have the HIGHEST guide scan detection rate. Its on par beside Kaspersky.

And also, anti-viruses smoothly do drastically little within blocking past its sell-by date spyware and trojan. I read out one anti-virus next to real-time doesn't do fundamentally much surrounded by securing your intact PC. I recommend getting Spyware Blaster and Windows Defender. Or not Spyware Terminator or Spyware Doctor from Google Pack. They adjectives consist real-time protection, which will unquestionably assistance contained by brushing bad those pesky malwares that anti-viruses don't entrap.
