I enjoy Avast & bitdefender (both free) running at impossible to tell apart time on my PC. does this DOUBLE my protection or does it lessen my protection instead? Thanks

Not recommended. Only use one anti-virus product. Running more than one can create conflicts thus rendering respectively ineffective. Below is what Symantec have on the subject.

It doesn't situation how lots virus protection u enjoy. It doesn't lessen ur protection or double ur protection. But its devout to own more than 1 cuz sometimes some of the virus protection can not detect or delete some virus or malwares, so if one cant detect may be the other one can. I own 6 antivirus and antispyware installed on mine and it works fine and doesn't interfere. But its honest if u own tangible time protection near ur antivirus protection. So if u want to use lone one antivirus i recommend u use Spybot SD(search and destroy) Cuz it is antivirus, antispyware beside real-time computer and internet deposit and protection. So it will not allow any virus to be downloaded from the internet and will ask ur approval to allow change contained by ur workstation. So its a great software and its completely free.
