You MUST with the sole purpose own 1 antivirus running at indistinguishable time. I am not dictum you are prohibited to install more than 1 antivirus. You only just hold to set one on authentic time running and the other newly run on constraint.
If I am forced to choose one between the 2 you mentioned, I will shift beside McAfee. Norton will eat up your system memory to a point you surface close to formatting your computer.
But if you ask me any antivirus to jump beside, I will suggest Avast. It is outstandingly lightweight, medium-high detection rate, physical time screening and best of adjectives it's FREE!!

Use one and only one anti-virus program to avoid conflicts... I enjoy experienced these conflicts, and while sometimes you can govern to hold more than one anti-virus program, its more imagined that you'll conclude up beside an unstable (crashing) system, and even an unbootable one on experience.
As for McAfee vs. Norton, I'd significantly recommend McAfee over Norton, but neither are that great. Both tend to suck up system resources- Norton more than McAfee, surrounded by my experience- and Norton have be specified to interfere with systems (it have happen to me.) They are also both expensive, and tremendously far-reaching spread. For matching use that Macs don't seize virus (very regularly at least) and Firefox is safer than IE, you would probably want to avoid wide-spread anti-virus solutions. The more wide-spread an operating system, browser, or anti-virus program is, the more troublemakers will design things to appropriate good thing of their flaws, because they are more expected to "hit" a PC, for example, than a mac on the internet, or more credible to hit IE than Firefox, or- within this case- their virus or malware is more possible to be scan by Norton or McAfee than by smaller, smaller quantity recognized things such as Kaspersky or NOD32.
I'd outstandingly recommend trying NOD32. It is available at www.eset.com. You can capture a free trial, and the program is smaller quantity expensive than any Norton or Mcafee. It is not hugely ably particular, but exceedingly hurricane lantern on resources, and is one of the (If not *the*) best anti-virus program(s) out within.
Another angelic, though somewhat more expensive, solution is Kaspersky as an anti-virus program (or suite.) It is also a terribly robust anti-virus program. It is usually rate right lower than, and sometimes over, NOD32.
For free, you can bring back a full host of anti-virus programs, but usually they're of inferior quality their paid-for counterparts (and its frozen to weigh up to NOD32.)

They're contained by the command that I recommend them. Avast!, however, does not own a scan scheduler. If that's essential to you, try AVG or Antivir. :)

Having more than one antivirus program moving within memory uses auxiliary resources and can result within program conflicts and false virus alerts.
So. if you enjoy more than one piece of software running at one and the same time, respectively program will assume the other is a virus.
IMHO.. (AVAST is the one to own... In contradiction to what the previous answerer said, It updates itself continuously, connotation, you never initiate an update, because Avast uses push to distribute update you whenever an update is organized.)
