I own downloaded break open bureau org as suggested but still cannot spread out word or excel doc's, any accepted wisdom please.
I can stockpile doc's AS different files within initiate bureau and my friends can overt attachments presently, so one partly of problem is okay. As they could not unstop works doc's. Arghhhhhhhhh

Answers: Openoffice writer can initiate msoffice WORD feeble text documents (usually next to record extension .doc). WORDS 2007 documents (with record extension .docx) will hold problem orifice contained by unseal organization.

Another possibility would be to use the free online service call docx converter (
http://docx-converter.com/) which converts docx documents into doc format readable by Open Office.
Ask you friends to produce documents/spreadsheet surrounded by ms-office surrounded by compability mode i.e. contained by 97-2003 format. office2007 excel and words have lot of Microsoft secret/confidential code and accordingly rugged to find converter that can be used beside openoffice.
Word (.doc) or Works files?
In Open Office, use Save as... later choose Word format. Open Office isn't competent to salvage or start Works docs, as far as I know.
Open Office open word and excel files flawlessly on my PC. What program open them on yours? Try shifting the "record associations" to Open Office (right-click > Properties... for respectively report type).
Hmmmm, strange one.
My thoughts are along the lines of:
1: Are the documents save contained by a edition that OpenOffice supports. (i.e. If they're save contained by Office 2007, OpenOffice may not know how to approachable them). Have them save contained by an in advance newspaper of the application.
2: They may enjoy be created within Word/Excel, but are they save within those loyal formats? i.e. .doc, .xls etc.
If they're save any other means of access, try getting them save contained by their local formats if at all possible.
Other than that, I'm stumped! I've never have any trouble introductory Microsoft files near OpenOffice.
