Answers: have one and the same problem and here's what I did to fix it:
Go to Control Panel. Choose printer. Then choose Add Printer.
Choose Add a local printer. Click on Create a topical port. The defaulting contained by the drop down box is Local Port. Do not modify that. Click Next.
A dialogue box will appear asking for you to enter a port entitle. Type within the \\computer name\printer name ie. My computer's name is crypt and the printer term is EpsonSty so I typed contained by \\basement\epsonsty
Yahoo! It worked. Go digit! I guess Microsoft think printers on a intranet are local.
I hope this help, I scoured plentiful forums b4 finding this fix. Microsoft's support docs and HP's tech support be no help
Note: copy your computer term and printer dub exactly, it's shield crust sensitive, so if you enter it wrong, it won't work. (I found out the tough channel.)
It's amazing how MS couldn't even acquire something as prime as accumulation a exchange cards printer right near Vista. It worked on 95, 98, Me, and XP machines I hold used over the years, but not beside Vista. Shame on them.
