Why do my browsers work, freeze for a while, and work again?

It take a while for IE, Firefox, or Opera to nouns up. When they do open out I shift to a page and the browser freezes when typing. It freezes for in the region of 10 second and afterwards it works fine again. The process repeats itself respectively time I stop by a unknown page. It works, but it's a drag. The internet works fine, Limewire works, the computer runs smooth, it's only just my browsers. If anyone can facilitate...Thanks.
