Why Ubuntu? I hold installed it on an dated computer to examination and I be not impressed. None of my day-day programs (Utorrent and a few others such as games) worked on it, or I needed to input a code into some sort of console blah blah blah.

So, to rework my mind, can a 'expert' of Linux describe me why I should install it? Bear in mind, I solitary used Ubuntu for a light of day and afterwards uninstalled it.

Ubuntu is a Linux Distro base on Debian. As far as I know, Debian have the most precompiled packages than any other distro near +16K packages. Debian also have a nice pack planner (apt-get). This alone have made Debian a popular distro for entrenched linux devices similar to the NAS. Ubuntu uses the apt-get packet superintendent as in good health and have a GUI one call Synaptic.

Ubuntu (KDE desktop) have also become popular because it is all set for LinuxMCE (similar to Windows Media Center Edition but is in actual fact perfect and robust). Usually, Linux is installed on a standalone low spec PC set (and typically not as a second OS unless used for development). There are lots multimedia possibilities this may, similar to an iTunes server (DAAP shares also supported by linux Rhythmic Box), BitTorrent server using webmin, Webserver, FTP/VPN servers for remote access, Asterisk (popular widen source VOIP), KAID (for tunneling LAN enabled console games over the WAN), uPNP servers for DNLA medium clients ... the chronicle go on (granted some can also be done on a Windows computer). Debian/Ubuntu work especially very well on NAS.

Linux won't replace Windows for gaming. Wine is a Windows emulator, but solely works for matured games (I deem singular OpenGL API rendered games as well). Ubuntu is a free OS targeted for users who aren't intimately used to beside Linux. It supports several CPU architectures and have a LiveCD for carrying out tests. It comes beside Open Office pre installed as powerfully as a number adjectives drivers for PC peripherals. Overall, its not trade name for dumb associates, but provides a powerful free alternative for

uTorrent is a Windows single Torrent client.
Use Azureus, a cross platform client that runs on the Java VM.

Bottom chain, if you are self-satisfied beside your Windows OS, and don't wan't Linux MCE (http://linuxmce.com/) or asterisk (http://linuxmce.com/), consequently Linux is not for you, especially as a second OS. Its far more adjectives as on a loyal apparatus.
