Can I use my Windows XP cd switch from my out-of-date computer on my clean computer?

I uninstalled Windows XP on my out-of-date computer. Can I install it on my up to date computer? Is in attendance any route to try-out the switch beforehand to see if it is a valid code? I tried to use the switch from my laptop, but it would not allow it. I threw my elderly computer away. Will the push button still be connected to my behind the times computer? How does it know if the push button is installed on another computer?

Answers: Actually, if it is an OEM license (meaning it come near the computer) you can NOT verbs it to a current computer.

It have to be a full text of window purchased rotten the shelf (not an upgrade) to be transferrable.

However you CAN install Ubuntu (or any other) Linux for free.
