Answers: There are free anti-virus scanners availble. They work very well. I similar to AVG the best of adjectives the free anti-virus programs.
If you are not predisposed to spend money it is apt to own some characteristics of anti-virus software

There are a couple of things you could take.
1. Trial softwares
2. Freewares
For the Trial softwares you could log on to any of the central antivirus sites and capture their trial version downloaded. I suggest going for a Windows Live OneCare which have a 90 year trial.
For the Freewares, you could try the AVG as suggested above or you could also use the Clam free antivirus software by the developers of Ubuntu (Linux).
AVG is the best.
FYI, the free reworked copy is unendorsed to use within a business environment. It's for home use just unless you compensate for it.
