My son, wishes to upgrade to Microsft's Operating System-Vista. I am going to buy him Vista for Christmas, but when I own looked, I do not beneath stand the difference between "Upgrade"? There is a Vista Home Premium Upgrade for going on for 100 pounds, and a Vista Home Premium for 170 pounds. What's the difference? And what Vista would you reccomend. I am hopeless near computers, and my son is on his laptop adjectives the time. Its a Dell Inspiron 6400, and I bought it later year for his Christmas present.

(ANS) First of adjectives I would strongly push for you NOT to buy or be in motion down the window vista upgrade pavement from XP to vista. Why? this approach carry much greater risks of problems scheduled during the upgrade process & upgrading is never as polite an cessation result as have the a copy of window installed from fresh.
**NOTE: Windows Vista will NOT run economically on contrivance that currently runs window XP successfully. Why? this is because the system requirements for the different window vista are MUCH greater than for XP. Meaning that your current laptop wont be powerful satisfactory to run vista outstandingly resourcefully and so even if your son be competent to upgrade he would be relatively disappointed near the termination result.
**Vista requires MUCH more powerful hardware contained by lay down to work ably and to hold plausible perfect rite.
**Vista have a massive foot print, import that it requires bigger, faster and more powerful hardware contained by contrast to window XP. Why? because adjectives the unknown fancy features surrounded by Vista (eye candy & extra trial features) require extra power to run them.
**Which ever copy of Vista you buy DONT buy an upgrade revision (I'm conversation from previous experience here) buy a complete full publication of Vista. My push for is own your sons piece of equipment i.e. laptop wipe (have the notes, MP3 music, similes, programs, etc back up past you do this) and hold window vista installed from fresh as this is a much better approach and will grant you a verbs install and is credible to result surrounded by far far not as much of serious problems after it is installed.

Its other better to buy the full journal and not the Upgrade. You can still upgrade from XP next to the full Version. The full Version will install onto a system lacking an OS, whereas the Upgrade will with the sole purpose install from Windows XP (it will fall through otherwise from a blank or formatted drive).
